Heartland Stickleback White 2010
Winemaker: Ben Glaetzer
Varieties: Verdelho 39%, Viognier 38%, Semillon 23%
Region: South Australia (Langhorne Creek 76%, Limestone Coast 24%)
Tasting notes:
Pale lemon in colour. A beautifully fragrant nose, with citrus & tropical fruit flavours bursting out of the glass.
The Stickleback White is a wine greater than the sum of its parts, with each variety bringing its own unique quality to the blend. Verdelho adds natural richness and acidity to the palate. Viognier contributes luscious body and texture. Semillon provides vibrant, zesty citrus characters. Flavours of white nectarine and apricot kernel and perfectly balanced by a crisp natural acidity on the finish. Fresh and lively, it makes a perfect summertime drink.
Food suggestions: Fresh seafood, salt and pepper squid, seared scallops or Thai-style spicy food.
Vinification: All components were harvested relatively early in the season for maximum freshness and bright acidity. Minimal skin contact and cool fermentation on lees has heightened the mouth-feel of the wine.
2010 vintage: Both Langhorne Creek & Limestone Coast again experienced well-paced seasons, with some heat experienced at time of fruit set, but otherwise excellent conditions for ripening, and good crop levels.
