Dolcetto & Lagrein 07: Australian Wine Annual

Spicy and meaty, with rather funky aromas of dark plums, blackberries, cedar/mocha oak over an unexpected smoky background. It's long and firm, with juicy flavours of sour-edged plum and dark berries, sweet but restrained oak and a distinctive combination of mint and menthol supported by fine, chalky tannin. It finishes quite savoury, but also with a raw, smoky ashtray-like impression of lingering bitterness.
