Gold for Heartland Dolcetto Lagrein 2007!

Heartland's 2007 Dolcetto & Lagrein has been awarded a Gold medal at the 2009 Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Show.

We won the only gold medal in Class 11: Other red varieties and blends, against 25 other wines in the category.

Over 2,300 wines were entered into the competition, with just 5.5% awarded gold. Results were announced at a Gala dinner in Sydney on 12 February 2009.

"These two Italian varieties work so well together I am suprised that we are the first winery worldwide to think of blending them. It's a perfect combination of the vibrant cherry Dolcetto characters with the intense colour and tannin structure of Lagrein" says Ben Glaetzer, winemaker for Heartland Wines. "It's also a tribute to the quality of fruit from Langhorne Creek".

UK wine critic Jancis Robinson MW has commented that "Ben Glaetzer's Dolcetto Lagrein is the product of imaginative grape growing plus talented winemaking".
