Viognier & Pinot Gris 2007: True allrounder white
David Ridge, The Adelaide Review, South Australia Aug 2009The Ben Glaetzer touch extends to whites and this wine is star evidence. The blending of two weightier varieties could be tricky and even drab; the result here is the complete opposite, demonstrating a deep understanding of the fruit sources AND the ability to catch it all - characters, weight and freshness. Viognier takes the lead with ultra-lively versions of its classic orange, apricot and spicy smells. Pinot Gris takes over much of the palate work, continuing with shapely melon and minerals. A little bottle age seems deliberate, more evidence of a keen understanding of European roots and style of this true allrounder white. Take it anywhere.
