Bloody Good: Stickleback Red 2004

Peter Forrestal, Quaff Guide 2006
 Nov 2005

Last year's Best New Label went to Heartland's quaffer, Stickleback.

Heartland is owned by a group consisting of Woodstock's Scott Collet, viticulturalist Geoff Hardy, Grant Tilbrook and winemaker Ben Glaetzer.  The Heartland wines are sourced from the Limestone Coast and Langhorne Creek and are all well-priced.  This is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and grenache that is rich, ripe and concentrated, has good weight and depth, smooth almost silky texture and a gentle, supple finish.  Quaff on!

Quaff key:  Bloody good -  a delicious example of the style that over-delivers on quality and offers great value
