Heartland Finds Gold on Limestone Coast
Press Release Nov 2002Australia's latest export
success, Heartland Wines, has taken a clean sweep in competition with wines from
the country's most prestigious red wine region, the Coonawarra.
At the recent
Limestone Coast Wine Show, Heartland Wines collected four awards, one for each
of the four wines it entered, making a clear statement about the quality of its
wines, which have won international acclaim since the start of this
year.
Chaired by
national wine writer James Halliday, the Limestone Coast Wine Show judges
awarded gold to Heartland Wines' super-premium 2001 Directors' Cut Shiraz. They
also awarded the highest score to Heartland's unreleased 2002 Directors' Cut
Shiraz.
Heartland Wines
collected bronze for its 2001 Wirrega Cabernet
Merlot and 2001 Wirrega Shiraz, a wine that is also pleasing the
palettes of business class passengers travelling on Scandinavian
Airlines.
Heartland Wines'
Chief Winemaker Ben Glaetzer said the awards put Heartland at the top end of
quality Australian wine. "Four out of
four ain't bad," he said. "These awards place us above the pack in one of
Australia’s greatest winemaking regions. "
In its second year, the
Limestone Coast Wine Show recognises the best wines from the Limestone Coast
region, which includes Padthaway to the north and Heartland Wines'
state-of-the-art Wirrega Vineyard to the east.
