Australia is the established leader of the UK off-trade, and heads into 2005 pulling away from France, its nearest rival. Stuart Peskett previews what's on offer at the Australia Day Tastings:

Ben Glaetzer, the Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year, will unveil his latest wine, 2004 Heartland Dolcetto Lagrein, at the Australia Day Tasting. Glaetzer describes the wine as having 'lifted aromas of mulberry and cassis with a hint of currants' on the nose, and, in the mouth, 'flavours of cracked pepper, cedar, cherries and wood smoke'. Great Western Wine will also be showing vintages of the Glaetzer range, including the flagship Amon-Ra, The Wallace, The Bishop and Glaetzer Shiraz.
